UGGAH RESPONSES TO YB BARU BIAN, YB CHONG CJ AND ALI BIJU OVER MPKK

“I wish to make the following clearification on response to the statements made by YB Baru Bian, YB Chong CJ and YB Ali Biju on the Majlis Pengurusan Komuniti Kampung (MPKK).

When the federal government decided to change the name of the Jawatankuasa Keselamatan dan Kemajuan Kampung (JKKK) to MPKK, the Sarawak government presented to it that the name of the JKKK be maintained in the state.

The federal government agreed to give its consent and thus it would not change the JKKK to the MPKK. It also agreed not to introduced or form the MPKK in the state. So in Sarawak the JKKK is retained.

The federal government too concurred with our view that another body would only serve to confuse and divide the people.

At the same time too, the federal government decided to reduce the allowance of the JKKK to RM500.00.

It has been remitting the allowance payment  to the state government without fail.

In Sarawak the federal government recognises that the chairman of the respective JKKK be from the Ketua Kaum...namely the Tuai Rumah, Ketua Kampung and the Kapitan.

Subsequently, the Sarawak government decided to top up with another RM400.00 to the allowance as formerly the Ketua Kaum had been receiving RM900.00 per person per month.

I wish to put it on record here that the Sarawak government has yet to be informed formally of any proposal to change the JKKK to MPKK except for the media statements by the three Yang Berhormat.

Currently, the JKKK has shown itself to be an efficient grassroot machinery in the state, especially in acting as the bridge between the people and the government.

So in essence there is no need to have an alternative body to be set up alongside the JKKK.

This is only lead to confusion and will definitely divide the people.”

DATUK AMAR DOUGLAS UGGAH EMBAS
DEPUTY CHIEF MINISTER, SARAWAK.
